STATEMENT FROM BOSTON PRIDE HOCKEY BOARD OF DIRECTORS TO SUSPEND 2020 SEASON

BOSTON – Boston Pride Hockey, New England’s premier 501(c)(3) LGBTQ+ hockey organization, released the following statement regarding the 2020 season:

“For nearly thirty years, Boston Pride Hockey has served to create an all-inclusive environment dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community and hockey players across the region. The safety of our players, families, and communities has continuously been a pillar to our organization as a top priority—and it will continue to be so.”

“In light of ongoing developments pertaining novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)—including the recent State of Emergency’s declared on a national and local scale—we’ve made the decision that it is no longer appropriate to continue to play games at this time. We’re continuing to monitor the situation to ensure we’re taking proper precautions—including recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC)—to mitigate the spread of this disease further.”

“Until further notice, BPH-sponsored events—including weekly scrimmages and other organized gatherings—are suspended. Our goal is to resume play as soon as it is appropriate, but these actions complement additional precautions that have been undertaken in recent days—including event cancelations, ban on mass gatherings, and social distancing safeguards.”

“We appreciate our communities’ participation as we navigate such unprecedented events and remind us of critical steps to take to limit the spread of COVID-19—including proper self-care and increased cleaning and sanitizing. Thank you—and stay healthy.”
